Too many conventions, to little money [29 Aug 2008|03:30pm]
[ mood | curious ]

I have a dilema

Next year there are many cool things happening. Two of thouse cool things are Wondercon (a comic convention) and Consonance (a filk convention). Now thease are ecpesially cool as they are dated close together and in the Lovely San Francisco. Also there are lots of cool people who will be there, including the amazingly talented Playing Rapunzel.

The less cool thing is thease are happening in (or around) March 2009, which unfortunatly sits between the UK filk con and the Eastercon, meaning I will be paying for 4 convention hotels (plus food, drink and trasport) in 3 months, which will be very very tight (or even imposible). Also as Wonder dates are yet to be announced, meaning booking for flights is uncertain

Anouther two cool things that are happening next year are Azkatraz (a Harry Potter con) and Comic-Con (...well, yeah). I know Azkatraz will be cool as alot of my very cool friends are planning on going, plus it is on the weekend of the relise of HBP, so lots of fun there! And as for Comic-con? Well I've wanted to go for years, and this is a great opportunity to go, when I know people who will be going themselves so I have a safety net of people for emergency haning (wow, that really doesn't sound right!). Thease cons are within a week of each other (infact they are in the same week as one runs 18th to the 21st and the other is the 23rdto the 26th), meaning potentially less time needed off work (although I would still probably take 3 weeks for a proper holiday).

The problem with thease cool things is the are alot more expencive and as they are in the summer (July) thef lights will probably also be more expencive.

Now, I had previously promised to go to the first 2 con's, for support and sillyness. Now though I am leaning more towards the summer cons. It will be hot! Plus I will have more tie to save for spending money and hotel money and everything. I'm about 90% sure that I want to go in the summer, and I think I will regret it if I don't but I feel bad for missing the rapunzel girls (they really are quite awesome). Also I'm not as sure on crash spce around July (hinthint).

So people of friends list, what do you think I should do?!
(Keeping i mind I recerve the right to ignor your suggestions, lovely of course.)

Out of the loop-de-loo [15 Jul 2008|01:18pm]
[ mood | curious ]

Hello Internet, and how are you today?

I think it's time for a brain dump.

So My Work has now got Sparkling Water in the kitchen, which makes me insanely happy (seriously, there would be bouncing but  then I would spill the precious bubbly nectar). This is good as I will now try to live off this and peppermint tea at work to keep me human, thus avoiding the evil caffeine and the expensive orange juice.

Speaking of Work, we currently have 2 people on leave and 3 off sick (2 probably for most of the week, if not longer) which makes the fact we are extra busy at the moment that much more fun, but oh well.

I the big move is only 2 weeks away (and will be starting this coming weekend) I have to be frugal, and also make sure I finish all the food in my freezer before I buy more. I foresee a lot of Salmon and King Prawns in my future. And apparently stir-fry, as I have had it 3 meals in a row (and will likely be my meal tonight and at least one of them tomorrow).

Oh, question for those cooks out there. I'm thinking of making a fish pie (with the salmon), does salmon go with blue cheese, or should I do just a plain
béchamel sauce, and not a cheese sauce (I only have blue cheese at the moment)?

In worrying news, my eyesight seems to be going (really, with both parents wearing glasses, I'm not surprised) I'm planning on going to the opticians some time this week, but I'm weary of the price, as I really can't spend that much money. Anyone know how much it is to get your eyes tested these days?

Oh, and one last question, What am I thinking of with the word 'Heliotrope'? (no, I don't mean the flower or colour.)

Disaster films are so over. [28 Mar 2008|04:48am]
[ mood | nostalgic ]

After reading the new xkcd strip I went to add Twister to my amazon basket.

This film was one of my favorites when I was around 11 or 12 and I watched it every time I had a sleepover. It makes complete sense that I watched it as a child, it came out in 1996.

Why is it that it comes as a shock that Twister came out 12 years ago?!

Then looking through the 'suggested' films I noticed that there where a LOT of disaster movies out when I was becoming a teen. This may explain a lot. I mean Armageddon came out 10 years ago. 10 YEARS!!! The same time as that crappy yet brilliant Godzilla movie. And independence day? A pivotal film for me.

However, even though I may not know my times tables, if ever we are attacked by aliens, about to be obliterated by a comet/meteorite or are being chased by dinosaurs/tornadoes/lava (or some mixture of the three) I'm your gal!

Pants in need of Bankrupting [24 Mar 2008|11:13pm]
[ mood | exhausted ]

Back from Eastercon!
I had a great time and am really glad I went what with all that's been happening a stuff. There was much alcohol, chatting, laughter and little sleep at all! It was actually like back when I was still new to fandom!

Also I think it was the fist time I'd been drunk at a con, at least as far as I can remember!
If there is anything that I should go read through let me know so my pants can be correctly hit by bankruptcy!

And how was your easter guys?

Tea and Cake or Death! [21 Jan 2008|10:48pm]
I've really gotten back into baking recently.

Last week I made:
Chocolate cake
Lemon and Poppy seed cake
Gluten/Egg free* drop scones (mini pancakes) half with berries half with chocolate
Gluten/Egg free* brownies

And I've just made another batch of brownies tonight because I wanted something sweet for desert.

I've also gotten allot better at washing everything up right after I use it so the washing up doesn't get ahead of me.

I'm getting down right domesticated!
